About Oakfield Tennis and Bowling Club
We Are Family Oriented with a great Team Spirit with Great Facilities at Fantastic Value!
We are a small, private club and have been here in Huddersfield, on the same site, since 1911. Our aim is to provide tennis and bowling facilities at great value for families and people who enjoy social sport, like to be part of a team or just enjoy active time together or with friends.
We encourage organised school participation with free access to our tennis courts. We very much welcome Junior members of all ages.
We offer open social sessions for both male and female tennis and bowls. If you want to improve your tennis skills on one of our all-weather courts we have tennis coaching available for all ages and skill levels. Our grass crown bowling green is a great place for social, league and tournament matches.
We are a not-for-profit organisation and Limited Company. Our Directors are the Guardians of the club and are unremunerated. Our capital developments and operating costs are funded solely by membership fees, social fundraising activities, public and private grants and donations.
Important Notice
Due to the popularity of the online booking system for tennis courts, we will keep the system active for all tennis members. Please ensure you book your court in advance except for organised weekly social sessions and matches. Bookings are no longer required for Bowling, although social matches will always take precedence.
Membership Updates for 2024
All memberships now include complimentary access to social Bowling at anytime on our Crown Green.
There is no booking system required for Bowling, members and their guests may just turn up and play. Please share the green fairly!
Philosophical Thoughts before Booking!
The cunning competitor plays on the other party’s guilt. Continuously praise your opponent’s shots, and you’ll notice how he begins to press. Self-beratement also serves to balance a guilty conscience for being successful and makes your opponent disturbed for upsetting you so. If on occasion you call one of your opponent’s “out” shots “in,” then later on you can innocently call an “in” shot “out” on a crucial play. Practice saying “Good try,” sincerely; then you can call a lot of close shots “out” and get away with it.

Accessibility to Our Club
Here for You
Our policy is to make our facilities as accessible to all as much as we are able to do. We have level access to the bowling green and the lower court via a separate gate. Access to the upper courts has two steps.
Unfortunately, access to the upper part of our very old clubhouse is via steep stairs. However, the lower part is accessible which incorporates the male and female toilets, the changing room and the shower.
All membership applications have to be approved by the Directors. We never discriminate against applications based on ethnicity, age or gender. Our policy is to firstly ensure that we have the capacity to accept your application and secondly that we feel that you will enjoy your membership with us and we are the right club for you.
We have a simple guest policy for members to invite others to pay to play and view the club.
